Hachette Australia is one of Australia’s largest publishers and we are always looking for the opportunity to publish great stories. We are not accepting fiction submissions at the moment, but we do welcome submissions from non-fiction and children’s book writers who are residents of Australia or New Zealand.
We are not looking for science fiction/fantasy, horror, illustrated books, cookbooks, poetry, screenplays or academic works, and will not consider any submissions within these genres.
Please ensure you follow the Submission Guidelines below to give your submission the best chance for consideration by our editorial team. If you are unsure how to write or format your manuscript, synopsis or cover letter, we recommend getting in touch with your local writers centre for advice on polishing your submission. More information can be found at the bottom of this page.
Please do not send hardcopy submissions to our office. They will not be considered or returned.
Submit your picture book, junior or middle grade fiction, YA or children’s non-fiction book via the Children’s and YA Submissions portal by emailing Childrens.Submissions@hachette.com.au
Please include in your submission:
The combined content and attachments of your submission must not exceed 15 megabytes.
Submit your adult narrative nonfiction via the Adult Submissions portal by emailing manuscript.submission@hachette.com.au
Please include in your submission:
The combined content and attachments of your submission must not exceed 15 megabytes.
You will receive an automated receipt of submission, and it will be considered by one of our editorial team. If we are interested in pursuing the project, we will contact you within six weeks of receipt of submission. If you have not heard from us within this timeframe then we have decided not to take your manuscript further.
Due to the volume of submissions we receive we are unable to provide feedback on unsuccessful submissions.
There are a number of organisations that help writers improve their writing skills, assess their work and provide professional development opportunities. Each state and territory also has a writers centre that provides creative writing courses and events, industry seminars and advice, as well as services to gain developmental feedback on your work.
